This Mercedes 129 chassis convertible top is made as original with 3 sewn in windows using patterns and specifications to the original vehicle. Made in the U.S.A in a modern factory by experienced craftsmen. The topping material has a Black interior backing color as original and includes vinyl piping around the rear windows like the original.
Includes 3 new plastic windows sewn into the convertible top for strength and durability. The windows are made from a 50 gauge (heavy) press polish vinyl for strength, longevity and clarity.
Manufactured using premium Haartz German A5 canvas. German A5 is the topping material used current model Mercedes like the CLK. It is an acoustically enhanced three-ply composite made of a polyester/acrylic twill weave outer fabric, a rubber inner layer and a cotton lining fabric. This is not only durable, but is heavier and quieter than standard materials.
In the 1990-1994 Mercedes 300-600SL the convertible top design included a buckle in the window section that was attached to elastic and screwed to the frame. In 1995 and newer models, Mercedes realized this was a bad design as it was damaging the convertible tops. They changed their design to remove the buckle and used elastic and canvas instead. All of our 1990-2002 Mercedes-Benz SL convertible tops incorporate this new design feature. The new design will fit the 1990-1994 model years.
