HEATED GLASS WINDOW GERMAN A5B/DS ACOUSTIC CLOTH FACTORY RETAINERS
Our 1997-2002 Porsche Boxster convertible tops are manufactured in the USA using the original patterns and specifications. This convertible top is made with an upgraded German A5B/DS Acoustic cloth topping material and includes a new heated glass window and electrical wiring harness.
ABOUT THE WINDOW
New DOT rated glass window is securely bonded into the rear window section. From the exterior, the edge around the window has a clean, finished appearance with no piping needed to hide stitching, gluing or imperfections that may arise from other bonding methods. The fabric has been carefully notched by a computer controlled cutter around the radius to ensure proper adhesion around the entire perimeter to eliminate potential leaking. The technology is unique and protected by worldwide patents and we guarantee the bond to the original purchaser for the life of the vehicle.
ABOUT THE FABRIC
Manufactured using premium Haartz German Sonnenland A5B/DS, a superior quality topping with dobby backing. The topping material is an acoustically enhanced three-ply composite made of acrylic twill weave outer fabric, a rubber inner layer, and a polyester lining fabric. It provides up to 3dB (a significant) reduction to noise levels.
The German A5B/DS is an incredible new technology that effectively seals out road noise. These Tops have been time-tested in hundreds of installations, which is why we feel comfortable providing a 100% guarantee that you will not have any problems with the fit.
How To Install A New Glass Window Convertible Top On A Porsche Boxster (986)
Porsche Boxster Glass Convertible Top Replacement Review
Porsche issued Service Bulletin Group # 6-61 28 55 to address original design issues with certain early models that experienced embedded side cables pulling away from the top during normal use. Our replacement tops solved this issue with design improvements to the side cables. We warranty the cable stitching will hold under normal use or we will replace your top at no charge.
This new Porsche Boxster convertible top includes detailed installation instructions that you can download immediately after completing your purchase.
How Does A Glass Window Fit into the Boot?
The 1997-2002 Porsche Boxster convertible tops were offered with plastic rear windows. You can purchase a replacement top with either an original style plastic window or a glass window similar to the 2003 and newer Boxsters.
The Boxster glass window is a DOT approved aftermarket window with the safety emblems and includes embedded defroster wiring and a wire harness kit to connect it to the vehicle's electrical system.
Like the newer Boxsters, the glass windows for the 1997-2002 Boxster are smaller than the plastic window. This is necessary since the larger plastic window folds when it is retracted into the top boot. And since a glass window does not fold it's size is 35.5" wide by 12'' tall to allow it to fit into the boot properly.
The trade-off is a slight loss in visibility because of the size and a big gain in clarity in your rear view mirror looking through glass compared to a plastic window that will discolor over time.
How to Connect the Wiring Harness
When you purchase the glass window convertible top from us, you receive a new rear window defroster wiring harness.
For all Boxsters sold in the US, with heated, electric mirrors there is a connector behind the seat belt harness on the driver's side where you can plug in the wiring harness.
One side of the wiring harness plugs into the window connector. On the other side there are two defroster connectors. One side is for negative and the other side for positive.
Just plug the harness to the window and connector behind the seat belt for it to work. The glass window defroster will activate when you turn on your mirror defroster. Do not turn on the defroster when the top is down to avoid build up of heat in the top boot.
