How to Choose the Right Top for your Miata Last Updated: 08/12/2016 |

Unless you are an expert, shopping for a Miata convertible top can be both fun and frustrating at the same time! It's easy to get lost in the weeds with all of the options available for windows, materials, colors, deck seams, rain rails, and zippered rear window when you try to absorb all of this information at once. To help make this process a little bit easier, we think the best place to start is to narrow down the options using the following steps. This way you don't need to decide on all of the available options until you first narrow down to the choices that work with your Miata and your budget.
The 1990-1997 Miata originally came with a plastic window and was a two-piece (or factory style) convertible top, which means the main top section and rear window section are separate pieces. But, to make the install easier, we ship the two-piece already put together. The 1998-2005 Miata originally came with a glass window but you have the option to replace with a one-piece plastic window at a considerable saving. To narrow your choices do the following.
You can choose to replace your worn Miata convertible top with a new glass window design made in the USA from the finest materials. You have a choice of two designs. The factory original Miata convertible through the year 2005 was a two-piece design. In 2006 the Miata soft top design was changed to a one-piece style. You have the option of choosing which design you prefer. Download the two attachments if you need more information about glass tops.
Okay, that's all there is to it....almost...we do have one more design choice. If you have chosen a two piece 1990 through 2005 glass window Miata top, then you will also need to decide if you want to have the zippered in rear window that can fold down when the top is still up or a lower price version without the zipper. Our one-piece designs do not include a zippered rear window option. All of our two-piece factory plastic window tops include the zippered window. WHAT ABOUT THE RAIN RAILNow you finally arrived at the correct product page and picked a color. One last optional step on the product page before adding your purchase to the cart is to decide if you want the optional rain rail pre-installed to your new convertible top. A rain rail is a U-shaped, molded ABS plastic piece that attaches to the rear bottom of the convertible top. It directs any water collected out drain holes to keep it from entering your interior cabin and trunk. We offer the option to add our best factory installed rain rail. We'll professionally install the rain rail to the convertible top before shipping. This only adds one day to the delivery at most, but may be done the same day. This is not a cheap version of the rain rail. In fact, our rain rail is superior to the one that original came with your new Miata, and if you buy one pre-installed you get a huge discount.
